Two-time All-American joins Jacy Dyer’s staff
TOLEDO, Ohio – University of Toledo women's swimming and diving head coach Jacy Dyer announced the hiring of Mia Cheatwood as an assistant coach for the program on Tuesday.
"I am so excited for Mia to join the Rocket family," said Dyer. "I've known her a long time and love her drive, competitiveness, intelligence, and passion. Not only is Mia from Toledo, she is one of the best swimmers in the country. She will be able to bring so many strengths to this program with her elite level of swimming and her love for Toledo. Mia is going to make an immediate impact as a coach and most importantly, as a person."
Cheatwood joins the Rockets after a four-year swimming career at West Virginia (2022-24) and Louisville (2024-26). Throughout her time as a student-athlete, Cheatwood competed in three NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships and earned All-American honors with the Cardinals in 2025 and 2026. She also scored in the 200 breaststroke in the 2026 NCAA Championships, ranking 10th in the nation.
"I am extremely thankful to Jacy for the opportunity to return home and coach in a place that means so much to me," said Cheatwood. "I'm excited to work with high-level athletes, see them as people first, and build strong relationships to help develop them into successful young women!"
Cheatwood ranks second in Louisville history in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.40) and third in the 100 breaststroke (58.59). As a Mountaineer, she broke the program records for both the 100 breaststroke (59.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:09.13).
Cheatwood participated in the USA Olympic Trials and was a World Trials qualifier in 2024 and 2025. She is also involved in USA Swimming, both as a participant and a coach.
