TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team took the battle down to the final point but ultimately ended up on the losing end of a 4-3 defeat to Cleveland State at Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Friday.
Junior
Hanamichi Carvajal tied the match at 3-3, putting the match down to a back-and-forth match at the No. 2 spot. Senior
Marko Galic fell to CSU's Kade Mindry 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(5) to secure the win for the Vikings.
Toledo took a 1-0 match lead into singles play after securing the doubles point from the bottom two courts. Senior
Pawit Sornlaksup, now ranked No. 91 in the country, then secured the first singles win of the afternoon in another two-setter from the top court. The Vikings answered by taking the bottom three courts to push ahead 3-2. Carvajal lost his first set to Nicholas Jamison but fought back to win the second set (6-4) and tiebreaker (7-6) to tie the match at 3-3 and set up the showdown on the No. 2 court.
Sornlaksup improved his singles career win total to 67 matches from the No. 1 court, which is the No. 4 best record in Toledo history. Â Every other singles match ended in a third-set tiebreaker.
Toledo (4-5) will play Chicago State (0-4) tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. (EST) at the H-F Racquet & Fitness Club.
