Rockets Take the Field for the Velvet Milkman Classic this Weekend

Toledo will play IUPUI, Western Illinois, and Murray State in Murray, Ky.
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team is back in action after a week off in preparation for its second tournament this season, Murray State's Velvet Milkman Classic on Feb. 23-25 in Murray, Ky. The Rockets will take Racer Field twice with IUPUI and Western Illinois, and once against tournament host Murray State.

Toledo opened its 2024 season with a 2-1 showing at USC Upstate's Spartan Classic, winning its doubleheader vs. Towson and USC Upstate on Feb. 9. The Rockets rallied in the fourth inning but could not generate any more runs in its 4-2 loss to Loyola Chicago on Feb. 10. Fifth-year senior Riley Mohr paced the offense with a .429 average and three hits. Junior Eli Enriquez had a .600 slugging percentage, one triple, and was 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. In the circle, junior Sophia Knight had a .054 ERA, gave up four hits, and struck out nine batters in 13.0 innings of work.

Toledo will head to the desert on Mar. 1-3 to play Pacific, Grand Canyon, Montana, and New Mexico in GCU's Purple Classic in Phoenix, Ariz.

- Senior Jenna Kroll's home run vs. Loyola Chicago was her first this season and 20th of her career, tying her with Rhonda King (1987-90) at the No. 6 spot in Toledo history.
- Enriquez had three stolen bases vs. Towson, tying the second-most by a Rocket in a single game. The last Rocket to do this was Arika Reed (2021-23) against Alabama A&M on Feb. 24, 2021.
- IUPUI has lost eight straight games, most recently going 0-5 at the Furman Invitational last weekend in Greenville, SC.
- The Jaguars are hitting .212 entering this week and their bullpen has an 8.09 ERA.
- Infielder Kinsey Pfeiffer has a .677 slugging percentage and sits atop the Horizon League with three home runs and nine RBIs in the first nine games this season.
- Western Illinois took one victory in a three-game series with Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Monday, before winning its doubleheader at Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday afternoon.
- The Leathernecks are hitting .257 this season and are led by senior infielder Bella Alvarez who has a .464 BA and connected on 13 hits while driving 10 runs home.
- Senior Emily Price has a 2.17 ERA and has 37 strikeouts in 29.0 innings in the circle so far this year.
- Murray State snapped a four-game losing streak at last weekend's 2024 Chattanooga Challenge, capping the tournament with a 3-1 win over Jacksonville State.
- The Racers are batting .159 and the pitching staff has a combined ERA of 2.52.
- Infielder Calista Collins leads the offense with a .278 batting average, .333 SLG%, and four RBIs.
- In the circle, Jenna Veber has struck out 20 batters and has a 0.82 ERA through 34.1 innings of work and earned MVC Pitcher of the Week honors on Tuesday.
