TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo Head Men's Golf Coach
Jeff Roope announced the addition of
Braden Herstich (Akron, Ohio) to the Rockets' program on Monday. Herstich will attend the University of Toledo beginning in the 2025-26 academic year.
"When we started looking at the class of 2025 in the state of Ohio, we identified Braden as one of the best players in the class," Roope said. "We had the chance to see him play at the US Open sectional at OSU Scarlet, we were there when he earned his way into the US Junior Amateur, and we were at NCR when he and his team won the state title. We were convinced. He plays in
and plays well in big events, competes like a champion, and dreams big. We are so fortunate that Braden chose to be a Rocket!"
Herstich earned a spot on Team Ohio as part of the USGA's National Development Program after qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur at Oakland Hills and winning the Ohio Junior Championship by two strokes last summer with a one-over par 217 (76-67-74). He has registered a 73.0 stroke average the last two years at Archbishop Hoban High School and helped the Knights to a 17-stroke victory in the state tournament this fall.
A second-team All-Ohio selection as a junior, Herstich shot a 67 to win the 2024 sectional at Good Park Golf Course in Akron. He also shot a three-under par 69 to advance to sectional qualifying for the 2024 U.S. Open.
