AKRON, Ohio – Five different players scored in double figures for the Toledo women's basketball team on Wednesday night in its 88-66 win at Akron.
Quinesha Lockett's 21 points led the charge, but
Jessica Cook (12 points),
Hannah Noveroske (12 points),
Nan Garcia (11 points), and
Soleil Barnes (11 points) all joined their teammate in double-digits to lead the Rockets (15-4, 8-1 MAC) to their highest point total in MAC play this season.
Toledo grew a 26-point lead in the first half, but the Zips (7-11, 2-7 MAC) cut the lead to single-digits by the midpoint of the third quarter. The Rockets quickly regrouped and rebuilt their lead to 17 by the end of the third period, and connected on 10-of-12 field goals in the fourth quarter to cruise to a 22-point triumph.
"I was proud of the way we played tonight," head coach
Tricia Cullop said. "It was nice to see
Quinesha Lockett return to form, and our fives all played well tonight too. I thought we took better care of the basketball tonight as well and shot it well from the free throw line. I don't have a lot to complain about offensively. Defensively we had some slip-ups and we gave up some easy baskets late, but it's always good to get a win on the road."
Lockett made 10-of-15 shots from the floor to lead Toledo. Garcia scored UTs first eight points of the night and was 3-of-5 from three-point range, while Barnes knocked down 2-of-3 three-point attempts. Noveroske and Cook both helped Toledo secure a 42-32 advantage in points in the paint. Cook's 12 points constitute a season-high total.
The Rockets had their best shooting performance of the season, connecting on 58.6% of their shots (34-for-58) while making at least 50% of shots in three of four quarters.
Akron had four players reach double figures in scoring, with its leading scorer Reagan Bass posting a team-best 15 points. The Zips shot 40.7% from the field, making 24-of-59 shots.
The Rockets return home on Saturday, Feb. 3 to host Bowling Green in the Battle of I-75. After posting the first regular-season sellout in program history in December, Toledo is aiming to sell out Savage Arena once again for this iteration of its rivalry game.

"We really want to sell out Savage for this game," Cullop said. "We have already done it once this year, but we want to do it again. This is a great rivalry between two storied programs. It should be a great game. I don't think anyone will want to miss it."
