Rockets Silence Detroit Mercy 3-0 for First Win of the Season

Mark Batman records his first win as a Toledo head coach

DETROIT, Mich. – The Toledo women's soccer team found its offensive rhythm on Sunday afternoon, blanking Detroit Mercy 3-0 for the Rockets' first win of the 2023 season, as well as the first victory for first-year head coach Mark Batman. Senior Madison Medalle scored a pair of goals and also assisted on a goal by senior Grace Turski to secure the Rockets' victory.

Medalle broke a scoreless tie late in the first half on a feed from McKenna Schultz, giving Toledo a 1-0 halftime lead. Medalle doubled the Rockets' lead in the 63rd minute before Turski made it 3-0 in the 82nd minute.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Brielle Young made the start in net and made four saves en route to her first collegiate shutout.

"I am very happy for the group," Batman said. "I feel it is always hard getting the first win of the season and even harder winning on the road. We were able to accomplish both today. We had some great minutes from the players coming off the bench, which made the game easier for us. We'll enjoy this and move on to next week."
