Rockets Get Revenge On Huskies, 4-3

Kleinschnitz clinches match with win at No. 6 singles; Sornlaksup extends his winning streak to 38 matches

DeKALB, Ill. – The Toledo men's tennis team evened the score vs. Northern Illinois on Friday and extended its winning streak to four matches after capturing a 4-3 victory at the Nelson Tennis Courts at Chick Evans Field House in DeKalb, Ill.

The deciding match came down to the No. 6 court in a battle between Luis Kleinschnitz and NIU's Armin Koschtojan. After losing his first set 7-5,  Kleinschnitz came back to win the next two sets 6-0 and 6-1.

The victory avenges Toledo's loss to the Huskies in in Toledo on March 17 by the same 4-3 score.

"This was another spellbinding match that came down to nerves in the end," head coach Al Wermer said. "We had the good fortune of Luis Kleinschnitz being in that moment for us."

Pawit Sornlaksup proved once again why he is the reigning MAC Player of the Year. Sornlaksup took down Cheng En Tsai in two sets to keep his winning streak alive at 38 matches and remain undefeated in MAC play for the 19th-straight time going back to last April.

Krzysztof Wetoszka's three-set win from the No. 2 court gives him a career-best 10-straight wins, all conference victories.

Northern Illinois started out the match by winning the doubles point with victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Adam Kovac and Marko Galic were ahead 6-5 at the No. 2 court when the match was ruled unfinished.

The Huskies captured individual wins from the No. 3 and No. 5 courts, while Galic was on the winning end of a three-set decision from the No. 4 court.

Toledo will have another shot at redemption on Sunday when it travels Western Michigan in a 1:00 p.m. match at the Sorensen Courts/ West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo. The Broncos won the first match between the two schools in Toledo on March 19 by a 4-3 margin.
