No.1 Seed Toledo Faces No. 4 Buffalo in MAC Tournament Semifinals

First serve is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in Kalamazoo, Mich.
TOLEDO, Ohio – The quest for the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championship title begins on Saturday morning with No. 1 seed Toledo (16-5, 8-2 MAC) facing No. 4 seed Buffalo (9-8, 5-5 MAC) at 10:00 a.m. at the Sorensen Courts/ West Hills Athletic Club in Kalamazoo, Mich. No. 2 seed Western Michigan (12-9, 8-2 MAC) battles No. 3 seed Ball State (13-9, 5-5 MAC) at 2:00 p.m.
This year's tournament is hosted by 2022 regular-season champions Western Michigan. The Rockets and Broncos both ended this season with an 8-2 MAC record to share the 2023 regular-season title. Toledo earned the No. 1 seed by tiebreaker.

Toledo ended the regular season on a season-high seven-match winning streak, taking down Buffalo and Binghamton at home last weekend. Pawit Sornlaksup continued his reign from the No. 1 singles court with two more wins to bring him to 41-straight overall victories and 22-straight conference dual triumphs. Luis Kleinschnitz clinched both match points for the Rockets last weekend from the No. 6 court against Buffalo's Gregg Hastings and the No. 5 court vs. Binghamton's Zubin Omar. Kleinschnitz has clinched match point for UT six times this season.
Krzysztof Wetoszka earned his second MAC Singles Player of the Week honors on Thursday, bringing UT's total conference honors to 10 this season – three doubles team honors and seven singles accolades.
The wins improved UT to 16-5 overall, the program's best record since 2010-11 when the Rockets went 24-10Â and finished second in the MAC with a 4-1 mark.

- UT's last appearance in the MAC Tournament was in 2022, when it finished runner-up to Western Michigan, 4-2.
- Toledo has seven conference titles to its name: 1966, '67, '68, '69, '70, '71, '73.
- Pawit Sornlaksup was named 2022 MAC Player of the Year, All-Tournament Team honoree, and First-Team All-MAC selection last season after winning 22-straight matches and earning a 12-0 record against conference opponents from the No. 1 court. Sornlaksup currently has won 41-straight matches and is 22-0 in MAC singles play.
- Adam Kovac and Wetoszka earned Second-Team All-MAC honors in the 2022 season, and Marko Galic was named to the All-Tournament team with Sornlaksup. At the tournament, Wetoszka went 1-0 from the No. 3 court, Kovac was 1-0 from the No. 3 doubles court, and Galic was 1-0 from the No. 2 singles and 1-1 from the No. 1 doubles court with Sornlaksup.
