Rockets Defeat Bulls to Advance to MAC Championship Match

No.1 seed Toledo will face No. 2 seed Western Michigan in finals
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – No. 1 seed Toledo defeated No. 4 seeded Buffalo 4-0 in the semifinals match of the Mid-American Conference Men's Tennis Championships in Kalalmazoo, Mich. on Saturday. Senior Marko Galic clinched the match for the Rockets from the No. 3 court to help the Rockets advance to the finals match for the second-straight season. The tournament plays clinch-scoring format, where the first team to four points wins the match.
"It says 4-0 on the board, but trust me, this was a tight match," head coach Al Wermer said, "It may have been a shutout, but it wasn't a blowout. We survived and advanced."
After the Rockets won the doubles point, Pawit Sornlaksup put Toledo ahead in the match 2-0 with a quick two-set win from the No. 1 court, his 42nd-straight singles match win. Adam Kovac followed with a win on the No. 3 court in two close sets, 7-5, 6-4. Galic secured UT's ticket to the finals when he took down Finn Macnamara in two sets from the No. 4 court to end the match.
Sornlaksup and Krzysztof Wetoszka won on the No. 1 doubles court while Galic and Kovac clinched the team doubles point from the No. 2 court to give Toledo the 1-0 match lead heading into singles play.
The No. 1 seed Toledo will face No. 2 seed Western Michigan tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for the Tournament Championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Broncos advanced by defeating No. 3 Ball State 4-0 in the other semifinal match on Saturday.
The Broncos won the first matchup with the Rockets this season, 4-3 on March 19, and the Rockets got revenge with a 6-1 victory on April 9, the first win over WMU under Wermer's reign as head coach.
