TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo battled through seven innings of sleet, rain, and wind with Akron on Saturday afternoon but came out on the losing side of a 10-6 final at Scott Park.
The game was tied at 2-2 when the visitors exploded for seven runs in the third inning, keyed by a grand slam by Abigail Scheller. The Rockets rallied with two runs in the third and fifth innings, but could not overcome the deficit. Toledo put two runners on in the seventh inning but a double play ended the game.
Jenna Kroll went 3-for-4, scored one run and had one RBI double in the fifth inning.Â
Riley Mohr went 2-for-4 including a two-rung homer in the third, andÂ
Aubrey Reed reached base three times.Â
Erin Hunt (8-9) took the defeat, throwing seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings of action.

Toledo (11-16, 4-5 MAC) and Akron (15-14, 3-6 MAC) will play a doubleheader starting at noon tomorrow.
Akron 10, Toledo 6
- Akron took the lead with a two-run single in the first inning.
- Toledo scored two runs off an error in the second inning to tie the game 2-2.
- The Zips got a grand slam from Abigail Scheller and scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 9-2 lead.
- Riley Mohr answered with a two-run homer to center field in the bottom of the third to make it 9-4.
- Madison Dudke sent one out of the park to push Akron ahead 10-4 in the fifth.
- Jenna Kroll hit an RBI double and later scored on an error to make it 10-6 in the fifth.
- Akron loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but Erin Hunt struck out three batters in a row to end the inning.
- The Rockets put two runners on base in the bottom of the seventh with one out. Aubrey Reed hit a line drive that looked like it might be caught by the center fielder. The umpire ruled that the ball had landed in play but Akron was able to throw out the runners at third and second for a double play that ended the game.
