Audrey Miller records three RBIs in weekend finale against Memphis
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Toledo softball team concluded the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday with a 6-4 loss to Memphis.
Redshirt freshman Reese Poston made her first start of the season in the circle, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up two hits. Lexi Johnson appeared in relief, throwing 3.2 innings and giving up three runs on five hits.
Audrey Miller led the Rockets with three RBIs on two hits after blasting her second home run of the season and 11th of her career. Eli Enriquez went 2-for-2, scored two runs and registered her first stolen base of the season.
The Rockets were facing a 6-1 deficit as they were headed into the fifth inning. Samantha Bolding tallied a sac fly and Miller followed with a two-run homer to put Toledo within two, 6-4. UT also scored two runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game, but due to a drop-dead time, per NCAA rules those runs do not count in the final tally. Thus the game goes back to the last completed inning (sixth) giving Memphis the win.
Quoting Head Coach Jessica Bracamonte
"We expected our pre-season schedule was going to be challenging. There were areas of the game we got beat and areas we beat ourselves. Lots of learning moments and positive takeaways for us to build off of moving forward. As long as we use each game as an opportunity to get better, I feel very optimistic about how this pre-season schedule will prepare us for conference play."
Up Next
Toledo will head to Farmville, Va. for the Longwood Invitational. The Rockets will take on Longwood and Virginia, kicking off against the Lancers on Friday, Feb. 13 at 10:00 a.m.
