Senior Palmer Yenrick finishes in career-best eighth place with career-low six-under par 210
OPELIKA, Ala. – Senior Palmer Yenrick notched the first Top 10 finish of his collegiate career and the Toledo men's golf team moved up three spots in the standings in Tuesday's final round of the Auburn's Tiger Invitational by Jason Dufner. The Rockets shot their best round of the tournament with a two-under par 286 to finish tied for seventh place in the 17-team tournament at the par-72, 7,289-yard Grand National Lake Course.
Yenrick recorded two eagles in today's round en route to a two-under par 70. He tied for eighth place with a career-low 54-hole score of six-under par 210 and was just two strokes shy of finishing in third place.
"Palmer's short game was really good this week and his ball striking was better too," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "He managed to get the ball around pretty well at South Alabama in our first tournament of the spring just based on the intellect he's developed. Coupling that with better ball striking and a good short game he had a fun week."
Junior Barend Botha registered the Rockets' best round of the tournament today by birdieing six of his final nine holes. He finished with a four-under 68 to tie for 24th place at even-par 216 (74-74-68). Freshman Bence Kotel enjoyed his best day of the tournament as well with a one-over par 73 to tie for 79th place at 14-over par 230 (78-79-73).
Rounding out the Rocket lineup were junior Jamie Tofte Nielsen (T-72nd/74-79-75=228) and senior NJ Botha (T-79th/72-72-86).
"Our team really is just trying to focus on the process at this point," Roope said. It's hard to make the transition to the spring when we go from having no grass and less than desirable weather conditions to trying to perform at the highest level with little reps. It's tough to do, but the guys are making the best of it and growing every time they step on the golf course."
Toledo returns to action next week when it travels to St. Simons Island, Ga. for the Sea Island Invitational on Monday-Tuesday March 13-14.
