BUFFALO, NY – The Toledo softball team split its doubleheader at Buffalo on Friday afternoon, talking an 11-1 rune-rule victory in the opener before falling 7-2 in the second game.
Toledo's offense exploded for six runs in the fifth inning of Game One to give the Rockets an 11-0Â lead heading into the bottom of the fifth. Senior
Erin Hunt's bid for her fourth shutout of the season was spoiled when the Bulls scored one run in their final inning in the bottom of the fifth. Hunt (7-7) scattered three hits and struck out five to earn her seventh victory of the season.
Anna Dixon led the offense with two hits and three runs scored.
In the second game, the Rockets had a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third, but Buffalo responded with a five-run third inning and scored once more in the fourth and sixth innings to earn the 7-2 win and split the series.Â
Sophia Knight went 5.0 innings in the nightcap and struck out three in defeat.
Dixon went 3-for-6 on the day with three runs scored and one RBI. Â
Toledo (10-13, 3-2 MAC) and Buffalo (7-19, 1-1 MAC) will play one more game tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for noon.
Game 1 – Toledo 11, Buffalo 1
- Toledo scored two unearned runs in the top of the first.
- Riley Mohr hit an RBI double to push Toledo ahead, 3-0 in the third.
- Lexi Eckman and Mohr each hit RBI singles in the fourth to make it a 5-0 game.
- The Rockets scored six runs in top of the fifth to take an 11-0 lead.
- Buffalo scored one run on a fielder's choice in the fifth, but could not avoid the 11-1 run-rule to end the game.
Game 2 – Buffalo 7, Toledo 2
- Toledo scored on a fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead in the second.
- Sidney Griffith scored on a routine groundout to make it 2-0 in the third.
- Sara Kelly hit a grand slam and Avelyn Van Heyst hit an RBI double to give Buffalo a 5-2 lead in the bottom of the third.
- UB scored once more in the sixth to push ahead 6-2.
- The Bulls scored on an RBI double to make it 7-2 in the sixth.
