Dominant Second Half Propels Toledo to 73-58 Win vs. North Dakota State

Rockets shot 71.4% from the floor after halftime

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Toledo women's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to come back and win for the second time in as many days, defeating North Dakota State 73-58 at the San Diego Classic on Saturday.

The Rockets (3-2) trailed the Bison (2-4) at halftime, 30-24, but caught fire from the floor in the second half. Toledo connected on 20-of-28 field goals (71.4%) after halftime and were a scintillating 11-of-12 from the field in the fourth quarter. After a rough first half, better shooting and better ball security proved to do the trick for the Rockets.

"I thought we were very sloppy in the first half," head coach Tricia Cullop said. "North Dakota State is a long team, and they brought a lot of help quickly, and I don't think we recognized that to pass the ball out. We had way too many turnovers. But we did a better job in the second half, and we also did a better job on the boards. I thought it was great practice on how to play back-to-back games, which we'll have to do in the conference tournament."

Quinesha Lockett led the way offensively with 21 points on 9-of-12 shooting, her third straight game with at least 20 points. Sophia Wiard scored 16 points, all in the second half, and added a team-high seven assists while knocking down 3-of-4 three-pointers. Emmi Rinat provided great production off the bench, scoring 13 points and causing havoc on defense with a career-high six blocks.

"I thought Emmi played well today," Cullop said. "Her 13 points were needed, and she made some really big plays."

Jessica Cook led Toledo with 10 rebounds and helped her team win the battle on the boards, 37-34. The Rockets shot 54.5% from the field for the game, making 30-of-55 shots.

North Dakota State had three players score in double figures, with Elle Evans' 15 points leading the way. The Bison made 20-of-63 field goals (31.7%).

Toledo also rallied from a first-half deficit to defeat SMU, 74-73, on Friday, to go 2-0 in the San Diego Classic.

Toledo's next home game will be Wednesday, Dec. 6 vs. Michigan. That game will be televised on CBS Sports Network and will tip off at 5:00 p.m., the first nationally televised regular season game in program history.

Toledo is looking to "Sell Out Savage" for this battle vs. the Wolverines, and will need the support from Team Toledo to make that happen!  For more information or to purchase women's basketball tickets, visit the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at the Sullivan Athletic Complex in Savage Arena, contact the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at 419-530-GOLD (4653), or go online to UTRockets.com/tix.
