Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Toledo women's tennis team won its third-straight match Saturday after defeating Duquesne 6-1. The Rockets improve to 2-0 on the road, after yesterday's 5-2 win at Youngstown State, and improve their overall record to 4-1 this season.
"The energy was great today, which is hard to do when you play back-to-back," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "I am very proud of the effort and looking forward to the journey this season."
Toledo started off strong in doubles play, securing wins on the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Though ahead 6-5,
Sanjana Tallamraju and
Julia Kuszynski's match went unfinished from the No. 2 court.
The Rockets won five of the six singles matches to bring home the win. Junior
Cassie Alcala won her 11-straight singles match with a two-set victory from the top court. Senior
Sloane Teske won the No. 2 court in a very close two-set final, marking her eighth-straight singles win. Junior
Shalini Tallamraju picked up her fourth-straight victory after a two-set final from the No. 3 court, while her sister
Sanjana Tallamraju won the bottom court in two sets. Senior
Mariona Perez forced the No. 4 court to three sets after falling in her opening set 2-6, and cruising to a 6-0 final in the second set. She ultimately won her match for Toledo in a 10-7 tiebreaker.
Toledo will be back home at Twos Athletic Club for its next match on Saturday, Feb. 4 vs. Oakland. The Rockets and Golden Grizzlies will take the court at 1:00 p.m.
