OXFORD, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team won its rematch vs. conference-leader Miami, 4-3, on Friday afternoon in comeback fashion. The win improved the Rockets to 16-5 this season with a 6-2 mark in MAC play to meet Miami (12-10, 6-2 MAC) at the top of the conference East Division standings.
Miami jumped ahead in the match 1-0 after winning the doubles team point from victories on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts.
The Rockets came back with revenge in singles play, with three of their four victories going the entire three sets. Sophomore
Shalini Tallamraju dropped her first set at No. 4, but took the second and third set for the win. Sophomore
Cassie Alcala won her first set at No. 1, dropped the second set and was down 2-5 in the third when she fought off a match point (at 3-5) to take it all the way for a 7-6(5) win. Junior
Sloane Teske defeated reigning MAC Player of the Year Laura Rico for the second time this season from the No. 2 court in two sets.
Both Tallamraju and Teske have won their last five matches with each win coming in MAC play.
"This was one of the most unbelievable comebacks I've ever seen," head coach
Tracy Mauntler said. "The heart of this team is immeasurable. They fight so incredibly hard for each other."
Toledo has two more regular-season matches on deck until the conference tournament at the end of the month. UT will host Buffalo on Friday, April 22 and close out the season at Bowling Green on Sunday, April 24.
