KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Senior Bri Robeson drove in the game-winning run for the Toledo softball team in its Mid-American Conference opener on Saturday. The Rockets picked up the 5-4 win after eight innings vs. Western Michigan Saturday afternoon in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Western Michigan jumped out to a two-run lead through the first three innings, until the Rockets took the lead in the fourth  inning. Sophomore Sydney McKeever scored on a wild pitch, and two batters later sophomore Arika Reed hit a two-run double to put the Rockets ahead 3-2. In the fifth, Toledo put up one more run and WMU answered back with two more runs to tie 5-5. Neither team could score in the final two innings, and the game was sent into extras.

With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth and no outs, senior Bri Robeson singled to center field to put the Rockets back on top, 5-4. Freshman Sophia Knight struck out the final three batters for the Broncos to seal Rocket victory.

Knight picked up her fourth win of the season, striking out eight in her complete game victory.

The Rockets (8-13, 1-0 MAC) will be back for a doubleheader with the Broncos tomorrow, with Game one scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

Toledo 5, Western Michigan 4

• Reily Galloway hit a solo home run to put Western Michigan up 1-0 in the first.
• The Broncos improved their lead to 2-0 off an RBI single in the second inning with two outs.
• Sydney McKeever scored off a wild pitch in the top of the fourth to get the Toledo on the board.  
• Arika Reed's two-run double brought around two runs for the Rockets to give them the lead, 3-2, in the fourth.
• Toledo added a run in the top of the fifth to make its lead 4-2. Jenna Kroll's sacrifice bunt attempt resulted in a throwing error by WMU's pitcher that allowed a run to score and pad UT's lead.
• The Broncos scored two in the bottom half of the fifth inning to tie the score at 4-4.
• Bri Robeson's RBI single in the top of the eighth brought in the game-winning run in Toledo's 5-4 victory.
