Toledo Travels to Michigan on Tuesday, Opens MAC Season at WMU on Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team will play a non-conference contest at Michigan on Tuesday, and end the week with its Mid-American Conference opening weekend on Friday-Saturday, March 18-19 at Western Michigan.

Last Time Out
Michigan (15-6) has won its last three games, most recently its doubleheader vs. Kent State on Thursday. The Wolverines won in five innings by an 11-5 margin in the first game, and ended the day with a 4-3 win in the nightcap. Graduate student Kristina Burkhardt paces the Wolverines with a .478 average, including 13 doubles and two triples. In the circle, senior Alex Storako has a 12-0 record through 71.1 innings, including 122 strikeouts. Storako struck out 13 batters in the opening game with Kent State, her third-straight and seventh overall game with double-digit strikeouts this season.

Western Michigan (8-13) was also at The Spring Games in Madeira Beach, Fla., recording a 4-4 showing. The Broncos picked up wins vs. Army, LIU Brooklyn, Holy Cross and Lafayette. Sophomore Cassidy Brendtke has scored 10 runs, while senior Reily Galloway has three home runs. Both Broncos lead their team with a .333 average. Galloway has a 5-6 record through 65.1 innings pitched in the circle including a team-high 87 strikeouts. WMU will face Notre Dame on Wednesday, before taking the field with Toledo on Friday.

Toledo (7-12) will host Buffalo in its home-opening weekend at Scott Park on Friday-Saturday, March 25-26.

- Senior Dayna Denner hit her fifth home run of the season vs. Bucknell, the 23rd of her career. She ranks No. 2 in school history, just one behind Kaitlyn Bergman (2015-18). Denner also had three walks and is No. 8 in school history with 53.
- Freshman Kendra VanderLugt hit her first home run of her career and sophomore Jenna Kroll homered as well in Toledo's 5-2 win vs. Bucknell.
- Freshman Sophia Knight fanned a season-high nine batters and registered the win for Toledo over Niagara (9-1) on March 11. Senior Makenna Durieux picked up the Rockets' final victory vs. Bucknell with four strikeouts through 7.0 innings.
