Rockets Head to High Point for Four Games

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo baseball team will visit High Point this weekend for a four-game series against the Panthers.

The weekend series opens with a 4:00 p.m. contest on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at Noon and the series finale on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. All four games will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Last Time Out
Toledo opened the 2022 season at Belmont last weekend, dropping three out of four contests to the Bruins.

Led by strong pitching from Kyle Jones and Camryn Szynski, the Rockets captured a 3-2 Opening Day victory last Friday. Jones tied a career high with 10 strikeouts in six innings of work, and Szynski shut down Belmont's offense with three shutout innings to earn the save.

Despite dropping the next three games, the Rockets' bullpen proved to be a bright spot this weekend. Eight pitchers combined to throw 13.0 innings out of the pen while posting a 0.69 ERA. UT's relief pitchers struck out 14 while walking just three.

D1Baseball named Brian Fry one of the Top 100 Impact Freshmen in the country prior to the season. He was the only MAC freshman to make the list and started all four games at second base last weekend.
Jones' 10 punchouts in last week's game at Belmont was the third time in his career that he reached double digits in strikeouts.
Jones was one of two MAC pitchers last week to record at least 10 strikeouts in a game (Dane Armbrustmacher, WMU).
Toledo's pitching staff totaled 33 strikeouts, second-most among MAC teams during the opening weekend (Ball State, 51).
Seven of the eight pitchers that appeared out of the bullpen last weekend were newcomers, and all eight made their Rocket debuts.

High Point enters the weekend searching for its first win after being swept at Jacksonville and losing a midweek contest to No. 9 NC State. Javon Fields is 5-for-10 at the plate with five walks so far, and three Panthers have a team-high three RBIs: Peyton Carr, Cole Singsank, and Sam Zayicek. Pitcher Teddy Merritt has a team-high seven strikeouts in two appearances.
