TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team opened its 2022-23 season on Monday morning with an 88-56 victory over Wright State in its annual Education Day contest at Savage Arena.
The Raiders (0-1) scored the first basket of the game, but the Rockets (1-0) followed that up with a 30-0 run to take a commanding 30-3 lead midway through the second quarter. The UT lead grew to a game-high 37 points in the third quarter and settled at 32 when the final horn sounded. Half of Toledo's points came from the bench on Monday, and all 11 players that saw the court scored a point and grabbed a rebound.
"When we can bring kids into this arena who maybe have never been to a game here before, to see the excitement on their faces is pretty special," head coach
Tricia Cullop said, referring to the roughly 1,300 elementary school students in the crowd on Education Day. "As for the game, I'm very proud of the way we started today, especially that first quarter. This is one notch in our belt and we need to keep moving forward. We have another important game on Friday and we need to keep improving."
Sophomore
Jessica Cook turned in her fourth career double-double, tying a career-high with 19 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Three other players reached double figures in scoring: senior

Toledo shot 52.2 percent from the floor and held Wright State to a 35.1 field goal percentage. The Rockets also won the battle on the boards, outrebounding the Raiders 47-27.
