Toledo Set to Battle Duke on Sunday in Savage Arena

11/18/2022 3:17:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team welcomes the Duke Blue Devils to Savage Arena this Sunday, Nov. 20 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Fans attending the game are encouraged to wear gold as part of Toledo's "Gold Rush Week" that has highlighted big games across Rocket Athletics this week.

Due to increased ticket demand, the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office will be open from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. on Saturday and will open at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Fans can also contact the Rocket Athletic Ticket Office at 419-530-GOLD (4653) or go online to UTRockets.com/tix to purchase Toledo women's basketball tickets.

The Rockets (3-0) are coming off an impressive 74-71 overtime win at Cincinnati on Wednesday. After leading for much of the game, Toledo withstood a fourth-quarter rally by the Bearcats and fought to a 58-58 tie at the end of regulation. In the extra period, Sophia Wiard's three-point play with 1:13 to go put the Rockets up by a point, and Nan Garcia's steal with 4.2 seconds left, followed by a pair of free throws, proved to be enough to seal the deal.

Sammi Mikonowicz recorded her ninth career double-double by scoring 16 points and grabbing 11 rebounds on Wednesday. She is the third Rocket to register a double-double in as many games, following Jessica Cook's double-double in the season opener vs. Wright State and Lockett's double-double against Canisius.

Lockett was Toledo's leading scorer for the second straight game, tallying 19 points at UC. Jessica Cook added 13 points, and Wiard scored nine points while adding five assists and four rebounds.

Rocket Notes
  • Tricia Cullop enters Sunday's game with 299 career wins as the head coach at Toledo. She is the winningest coach in program history and boasts a 299-156 record at UT and a 422-268 overall record.
  • The Rockets' overtime victory over Cincinnati on Wednesday was their first since Jan. 18, 2020 when they defeated Bowling Green at home, 79-72. The win snapped a streak of three straight overtime losses for UT.
  • The win over Cincinnati extended Toledo's road winning streak to 12, which is the longest active road winning streak in the country.
  • Sunday's game will be the first time Toledo has welcomed a Power Five basketball school to Savage Arena since the 2018-19 season, when the Rockets hosted Notre Dame during the regular season and Northwestern during postseason WNIT play.
  • This will be the fourth meeting all-time between Toledo and Duke. The Blue Devils lead the series 2-1, but Toledo won the last meeting, a 71-65 triumph at home on Nov. 18, 2001.
  • Quinesha Lockett's 1,440 career points are 14th all-time and just 15 away from moving past Andola Dortch (2010-14) and Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott (2014-18) to move into sole possession of 12th place on the all-time scoring list. She is 27 points away from moving into the Top 10 all-time.
  • Jessica Cook ranks ninth in the country in field-goal percentage, connecting on 16-of-22 shots from the floor, which is good for 72.7 percent.
  • Sophia Wiard has led the MAC in assist/turnover ratio each of the last two seasons, and this year she ranks second in the league and 17th nationally with a 5.33 A/T ratio.
