TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo women's golf program will host the Rocket Classic next week at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio for the second straight year. The tournament will be held on Monday-Tuesday, October 10-11 with 10 schools competing for the tournament title.
The Rockets will be joined by five Mid-American Conference programs — Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, and Ohio — as well as Cincinnati, Cleveland State, Purdue Fort Wayne, and Rutgers.
The Rocket Classic will be the third tournament Toledo has competed in this fall. The Rockets' entire roster will be competing in the event. Junior Cheryl Hong led UT to a second-place showing last year in the event by tying for third place with a 10-over par 226 (80-73-73)
Toledo's lineup will include senior Amelia Lee at No. 1, sophomore Yedam Lee at No. 2, junior Macy Hanus at No. 3, Hong at No. 4 and freshman Reese Jansa at No. 5. Junior Angel Hii, junior Kaitlyn Natividad, senior Claudia Sampson, sophomore Cameron Ford and senior Kathryn Roth will compete as a B team for the Rockets.
Amelia Lee leads the Rockets with a 71.8 stroke average and is coming off her best performance as a Rocket. She captured her first tournament title as a collegian on Sept. 18 to lead Toledo to a sixth-place finish at Penn State's Nittany Lion Invitational. Lee shot a seven-under 209 (68-71-70) to finish with the second-best 54-hole score in program history.
