Toledo Ties for Third Place at Rocket Classic

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – The Toledo women's golf team tied for third place on Tuesday in the final round of the Rocket Classic. Junior Macy Hanus paced the Rockets in the final round with a three-over par 75 on the par-72, 6,118-yard Catawba Island Club's course.

Hanus finished the tournament tied for 11th place at 16-over par 232 (80-77-75), trailing only freshman Reese Jansa. Jansa tied for seventh place at 14-over par 230 (74-73-83).

"Reese played really well in her first two rounds and is still learning how to close out an event," Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "That's a lot to learn for a freshman who really wants it. Macy was strong today and while it was a little chaotic at times she held a lot of it together and was mentally strong."

Sophomore Yedam Lee (T-17th/236) and senior Amelia Lee (T-20th/238) also posted Top 20 finishes for the Rockets.

"Yedam was steady for most of the day, and Amelia bounced back after a slow start to the tournament for her," Coluccio said.

Senior Claudia Sampson registered a career-best five-over par 77 competing for Toledo's B team. She also surpassed her best 54-hole performance by eight strokes finishing at 242 with a career-best 28th-place tie.

"It was really fitting for Claudia to have her best tournament in her last home event at her home course," Coluccio said. "The course conditions were tough and she was able to play her best."

Rutgers captured the team title with a 46-over par 910, 13 strokes in front of Akron (923). The Scarlet Knights' Rikke Nordvik edged out teammate Leigha Devine by one stroke, finishing at six-over par 222.

Toledo returns to action next week when it travels to Birmingham, Mich. for Central Michigan's Chippewas Invitation. The tournament will take place on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 17-18.
