Toledo Faces No. 6 Ohio State in 2022 Season Opener

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team will open the dual-match portion of its 2021-22 season on the road with three non-conference matches this week. The Rockets travel to Columbus to face No. 6 Ohio State on Wednesday, Jan. 19.
"We have some big opportunities this season to learn and to build," head coach Al Wermer said. "Our players came here for these challenges, and they're excited to open our year at #6 Ohio State. The Buckeyes always bring terrific energy and intensity."
First serve between the Rockets and Buckeyes is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, with Live video available.Â
Wermer's team recorded an 7-9 overall record with a 3-7 mark in MAC competition in the 2020-21 season.Â
Last Time on the Court
Toledo left the Mid-American Conference Indoors (Nov. 5-7) with a 20-9 combined record and three individual champions and one doubles champion. Sophomore Adam Kovac, junior Marko Galic and senior Cole Shoults each won their respective singles brackets, while sophomore Krzysztof Wetoszka won the Flight Three Doubles bracket with Western Michigan's Jackson Boone.
About No. 6 Ohio State
The Buckeyes recently had two doubles teams, Matej Vocel/ Robert Cash and James Trotter/ Justin Boilais, named the top-2 doubles teams in the country by ITA Rankings. Cash/ Vocel won the ITA Doubles National Title on Nov.4 in a three-set victory over Stanford's Arthur Fery and Alexandre Rotsaert. The duo also won the ITA All-American Championship doubles title in September and were 14-0 through the fall season.
