ATHENS, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's volleyball team swept Ohio on Saturday for its first MAC win of the year.
Â
After falling to the Bobcats (1-12, 1-1 MAC) in three sets on Friday, the Rockets (10-4, 1-1 MAC) returned the favor on Saturday with a three-set sweep.
Â
"We went on the road and found a way to win one match," head coach Jason Oliver said. "Ohio was special on the first night and to respond the way we did today was great. I am proud of the effort and grit that the team showed."
Â
Sophomore Taylor Alt was terrific, notching a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs while hitting .303. Junior Sina Uluave added 10 kills and hit .308 to help the cause. Junior Olivia Vance added seven kills and junior Rhyenne Filisi had a match-high five blocks.
Â
Toledo returns home next weekend to host Kent State for a pair of matches.
Â
Set 1 (Toledo, 25-23)
Ohio started the match off by scoring the first four points to take a 4-0 lead. The Bobcats nearly led wire-to-wire and held a 23-19 advantage at one point. An OU service error made it 23-20, then two straight Toledo blocks made it 23-22. After an Ohio timeout, Alt recorded back-to-back kills and a Bobcat attack error completed 6-0 run that gave Toledo a 25-23 win and a 1-0 lead in the match. The Rockets' offensive attack was outstanding in the first set, pummeling the Bobcats with a .438 attack percentage.
Â
Set 2 (Toledo, 25-21)
Once again, Ohio took an early lead, but Toledo scored three straight points to make it 5-4. After the Bobcats answered back with a block to make it 5-5, their service error put the Rockets in front 6-5 and the Midnight Blue and Gold would not trail for the remainder of the second set. Toledo led by as many as six, 20-14, and ended up wining 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
Â
Set 3 (Toledo, 25-21)
The Rockets would win the third set by the same score as the second set, 25-21, to complete the three-set sweep. The Bobcats did not go down quietly, fighting their way to a 20-20 stalemate. Uluave's 10th kill put Toledo ahead for good at 21-20. UT would score four of the next five points to clinch the match and earn its first MAC win of the year.
