TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team kicks off its fall schedule at the University of Illinois on Thursday with the ITA Midwest Regional. Competition begins Thursday, Sept. 23 and will run through the weekend.
"This is always an elite event with the best players in the Midwest," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Sloane [Teske] played this event her freshman year and had a big win against Michigan. There will be lots of opportunities to compete at a high level this weekend."
This will be the first time Toledo takes the court since its historic 2021 season. The Rockets finished the year 15-7 with an 11-3 mark in conference play, good for a second-place finish, and ended the season on a nine-match winning streak.
Toledo returns eight of its nine players from last year's roster, including 2021 MAC Freshman of the Year Cassia Alcala and Teske, an All-MAC honoree.
Last Time at ITA Midwest Regionals
The last time the Rockets competed at ITA Midwest Regionals was Oct. 2019, held in East Lansing, Mich. Teske's aforementioned victory over Michigan's Lera Patiuk was one of the highlights for Toledo. Former Rocket Dee Dee Leenabanchong and current senior Eileen Carney also teamed up to advance to the second round of the doubles tournament, outlasting a duo from Valparaiso.
