TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo Rockets return to the Glass Bowl to face Colorado State on Saturday, Sept. 18 (4:00 p.m./ESPNU) after nearly pulling off one of the greatest upsets in school history last week.
Toledo (1-1) lost at Notre Dame, 32-29, on Sept. 11 but not before putting on an impressive showing that nearly sent the then-No. 8 Irish down to defeat.Â
Toledo's defense held Notre Dame in check most of the game, racking up three turnovers, six sacks and five pass breakups. Junior cornerback
Chris McDonald had a pick-six late in the first half and junior lineman
Terrance Taylor had a pair of sacks.
Sophomore quarterback
Carter Bradley completed 17-of-27 passes for 213 yards. Sophomore
Devin Maddox had a career-high nine receptions for 135 yards. Junior
Bryant Koback paced the rushing attack with 122 yards on 22 carries with one TD reception.
The Rockets took a 29-24 lead with 1:35 left on a 26-yard touchdown run by redshirt freshman quarterback
Dequan Finn. Notre Dame scored the game's final points on an 18-yard TD pass from Jack Coan to Michael Mayer and a converted two-point conversion with 1:09 left.
Colorado State (0-2) has opened the season with a pair of home defeats, 42-23 to South Dakota State and 24-21 to Vanderbilt.
Toledo leads the series with the Rams, 2-1. The Rockets won in Fort Collins in 2019, 41-35.
Bryant Koback rushed for a career-high 228 yards, 168 coming in a wild third quarter. ÂKoback ran for touchdowns of 37, 75 and 47 yards in Toledo's first three possessions of the second half. The outcome of the game was not decided until the final play. A last-gasp pass by Colorado State from the Toledo 25-yard line was completed near the goal line, but DeDarallo Blue and Jordan Fisher combined for the tackle at the two-yard line as time ran out, giving Toledo the victory.
