Toledo Downs CMU 12-5 in Game 1; Falls 3-1 in Game 2

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Toledo split a doubleheader against Central Michigan (12-26, 10-18 MAC) on Tuesday afternoon at Margo Jonker Stadium by winning the opener 12-5 and falling in the nightcap by a 3-1 margin.

"It was two entirely different games for us," Head Coach Joe Abrahman said. "We just crushed the ball in the opener and CMU starter Grace Lehto had our number in the nightcap."

Senior Erin Hunt (17-12) earned the victory for the Rockets (23-20, 13-14 MAC) in Game One by hurling her MAC-best 21st complete game of the season.

Sophomore Leah Munson paced Toledo's attack in the opener with three hits in addition to scoring a pair of runs. Sophomore Macey Moore drove in a team-high three runs on two hits, while senior Dayna Denner notched two RBIs with a double and single.

The Rockets were limited to just four baserunners in Game Two with junior Anna Dixon, Moore and Munson registering singles and Denner reaching on a hit-by-pitch.

Freshman Annika Johnson (2-2) took the loss in the nightcap after allowing four hits and three runs in three innings. Junior Makenna Durieux gave the Rockets a chance to rally by throwing three scoreless frames of four-hit relief.

"It was encouraging to see Makenna throw really well, and Annika was one out shy of having a really good outing," Abraham said.

Toledo will be back on the diamond again tomorrow when it visits Western Michigan (11-27, 7-17 MAC). First pitch for the doubleheader at Ebert Field is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

GAME 1
  • Central Michigan took an early lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
  • The Rockets broke through for four runs in the fourth scoring runs on a two-run single from Macey Moore and RBI singles from Leah Munson and Aleah Marra.
  • The Chippewas tallied single runs in the fourth and fifth to make it a one-run contest.
  • Toledo blew the game open with an eight-run seventh. The first nine Rockets reached base on six hits, one walk, a hit-by-pitch and a Chippewa error.
  • Dayna Denner drove in a pair on a double to center field with Anna Dixon, Raelyn Nyren, Lauren Erickson, Bri Robeson, Munson and Moore also collecting an RBI.

GAME 2
  • Toledo was held hitless in the first three innings.
  • CMU scored its only runs of the game in the third on Shannon Stein's two-run double to right and Caitlyn Britton's RBI single up the middle.
  • Macey Moore drove in the Rockets' lone run in the fourth with a single to center field.
