TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo baseball team ended its season on Sunday with a pair of losses to MAC Champions Central Michigan, falling 5-4 in the first game before enduring a 10-1 loss in the second game.
The Rockets end the year with a record of 23-33 and a 21-19 mark in conference play, good for a fifth place finish in the MAC.
"This was not the way I envisioned the final series of the season ending," head coach
Rob Reinstetle said. "But as we did all year, we battled and played Central Michigan really tough in two one-run losses this weekend. It's easy to get caught up in one day or weekend series, but the overall body of work was really good for this group. I told the team and thanked them for moving the program in a positive direction. You always have things to get better at, but I'm really excited for where the program is headed."
Though the Chippewas controlled game two, the first game was a close battle. The Rockets trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the third, but scored two runs in that inning and the next to tie the score at 4-4. CMU scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth, and UT was unable to push across another run in the eventual one-run loss.
Toledo held its Senior Day ceremony prior to the first game, honoring pitchers
Nate Haugh,
Wyatt Jefferson, and
Layne Schnitz-Paxton for their contributions to Rocket baseball during their careers.

- The Chippewas added another run in the top of the third to push their lead to 4-0.

- Central Michigan had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the fourth, but a nice play by Trace Hatfield at shortstop led to a 6-3 double play to get Schnitz-Paxton out of trouble.
- Winterstein's two-run double in the bottom of the fourth tied the score at 4-4.
- The game-winning run scored in the top of the sixth for CMU. Mario Camilletti led off the inning with a double, then scored on teammate Jakob Marsee's two-bagger to make it 5-4.
