Toledo Visits Eastern Michigan Tuesday Evening

5/17/2021 5:05:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo baseball team (19-28, 17-14 MAC) will play at Eastern Michigan (20-22, 14-17 MAC) on Tuesday evening, with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m. in Ypsilanti.

This will be the final makeup game between the two teams from their previously-postponed weekend series. Eastern Michigan has won two out of three against the Rockets so far.

Last Time Out
Toledo took three out of four from arch-rival Bowling Green over the weekend, including a thrilling 5-2 win over the Falcons at Fifth Third Field on Friday.

BGSU scored the first run of that game, but the Rockets answered with two in the bottom of the second and would not trail for the rest of the night. Bowling Green was not without scoring opportunities, leaving seven runners on base in the final three innings, failing to score in the ninth inning with the bases loaded and nobody out.

After dropping the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, Toledo came back to win game two before dismantling the Falcons on Sunday by a score of 19-2.

Big Week For Chris Meyers
Chris Meyers hit two home runs over the weekend and now has 15 on the season, which ties the program's single-season home run record also held by Ross Adolph (2018) and Mike Ernst (2000). Meyers blasted a three-run home run in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, then hit a solo shot in game two that gave him a share of the record. He now has nine games to break the record, starting on Tuesday at EMU.

The Miamisburg, Ohio native was named MAC Player of the Week for his performance last week, hitting .500 (10-for-20) across six games for the Rockets, slugging two home runs and tallying nine RBIs.

Meyers is hitting .383 this season with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Rocket Notes
  • Chris Meyers is currently ranked sixth in the nation in slugging percentage (.772) and tied for 14th with 15 homers. He leads the MAC in both of those categories as well as batting average (.383), on-base percentage (.505), hits (62), RBIs (51), and doubles (16).
  • The Rockets have hit 60 home runs as a team this season, far and away the most in the MAC. Toledo is on pace to set a new team single-season home run record; the current mark is 65, set in 2002.
  • The 19 runs Toledo scored on Sunday were the most since another 19-run performance on April 16, 2019 against Oakland. The 17-run margin of victory was the largest for the Rockets since 27-8 win over Olivet College on April 6, 2010.
  • As a team, Toledo has hit 45 home runs and is slugging .521 in conference play, both of which are tops in the MAC.

Scouting Eastern Michigan
The Eagles split their weekend home series against Northern Illinois, winning the first two before dropping the second two games. Justin Meis was named MAC Co-Pitcher of the Week, going 2-0 in 7.1 innings of work with seven strikeouts. Eastern Michigan ranks fourth in the MAC in team ERA (4.64), and its pitchers have walked just 138 batter, second-fewest in the league.
