TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo softball team split a doubleheader with Ohio on Friday afternoon at a windy Scott Park by posting a 10-8 victory in the opener before falling by a 10-7 margin in the second game.Â
The Rockets (17-11, 7-5 MAC) jumped out to big leads in both contests but were unable to hold onto a 7-2 advantage after four innings in the nightcap.
"It was kind of a bittersweet day because we were three innings away from a big doubleheader sweep and we couldn't finish it off," Head Coach
Joe Abraham said. "Ohio has some big bats. They come to hit and don't get cheated. We are scoring nearly double digits every game, so our pitching and defense need to figure out a way to win these types of games even if the wind is blowing out."
Junior
Aleah Marra (4-for-8) led the Rockets with five RBIs on the day, with senior
Dayna Denner (3-for-5) driving in four runs to go along with her Mid-American Conference-best 11
th home run of the season. Junior
Anna Dixon also collected four hits for Toledo.
Senior
Erin Hunt (13-8) picked up the victory with a complete game in the opener but took the loss after pitching the final two innings of Game Two. The Rockets and Bobcats are scheduled to wrap up this weekend's four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader scheduled to begin at noon. The two teams were originally slated to play single games the next two days but there is rain in the forecast for Sunday.
