Reese Poston tallies a career-best five strikeouts against Syracuse
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Toledo softball team lost a pair of non-conference games on the opening day of the Liberty Softball Classic in Lynchburg, Va. The Rockets dropped a 5-3 contest to Syracuse and fell to Liberty, 7-2.
Against the Orange, redshirt freshman Reese Poston tallied her third start of the season in the circle, throwing four innings and striking out a career-best five batters. Freshman Jenna Gober recorded the first RBIÂ of her collegiate career on a single to center field in the fifth inning.
In the matchup with Liberty, Payton Abiley recorded a career-best two RBIs with a single in the sixth inning. Junior Katie McDonald earned the start in the circle, tossing three innings and tallying two strikeouts. Lexi Johnson appeared in relief for the sixth inning, giving up just one hit and allowing no runs.

- Syracuse struck first on an RBI single in the first, 1-0, before Reese Poston tallied two-straight strikeouts to end the frame.
- Eli Enriquez scored on a Syracuse error in the third to even the contest, 1-1.
- The Orange fired off two solo home runs in the fourth to retake a 3-1 lead.
- Jenna Gober drove in two runs with a single in the top of the fifth to tie the game, 3-3. Syracuse used a two RBI single to take the lead for the third time, 5-3, in the bottom of the frame.
- Liberty scored first, plating three runs in the fourth and adding two more in the fifth to extend their lead, 5-0.
- Payton Abiley put Toledo on the board, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth with an RBI single, 5-2. The Flames responded by adding two runs of their own in the bottom of the frame to take a 7-2 lead.
- The Rockets looked to score in the top of the seventh by getting two runners on base, but were unable to get any runs home.
