Rockets' late rally vs Orange falls short in 4-3 setback
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Toledo softball team dropped a pair of non-conference matchups to Power 4 Conference opponents Maryland and Syracuse on Saturday at the Liberty Softball Classic in Lynchburg, Va.
Against Maryland, junior starter Katie McDonald held Maryland to five consecutive scoreless innings and tallied a season-high six strikeouts in a 4-0 defeat. Six different Rockets recorded hits against the Terps.
UT rallied to pull within one run in the bottom of the seventh against Syracuse but could not push across the tying run in a 4-3 loss. Samantha Bolding went 2-for-4, her third multi-hit game of the season, and scored a season-best two runs. Audrey Miller and Aubrey Hensley each knocked in runs while freshman Olivia Signorino tossed six innings and recorded a career-best six strikeouts.

- In a scoreless affair, Maryland struck first by scoring three runs in the top of the sixth. UT responded by getting a runner on base but was unable to send them home.
- The Terps added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to earn a 4-0 win.
- The Rockets got out a bases loaded jam in the top of the third to keep the contest scoreless.
- After a pair of singles in the fourth, UT got on the board first scoring off of an Orange error to take a 1-0 lead.
- Syracuse took the lead with an RBI single to left field in the fifth inning, 2-1.
- Aubrey Hensley hit a ground out to send Samantha Bolding home in the bottom of the sixth to even the game, 2-2.
- The Orange fired off a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to retake the lead, 4-2.
- Audrey Miller made it 4-3 with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the frame, but a Bolding fly out ended the game.
