TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo men's tennis team played its final match of the season on Sunday, defeating Binghamton 5-2 at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
"Today we played a little nervous in doubles," head coach
Al Wermer said. "But the momentum turned our way after about 20 minutes of singles, and the guys never let up the rest of the way."
Prior to the match, the Rockets honored three seniors for Senior Day:
Nikola Arsic,
Thawin Suksathaporn, and
Filip Zupancic.
The Bearcats actually took a 1-0 lead in the match, winning the doubles point by taking courts No. 2 and 3 in doubles. But the Rockets were able to win five of the six singles matches to clinch a victory in their final match of the year.
Suksathaporn defeated his Binghamton counterpart on the top singles court to cap a 2-0 day, after teaming with freshman
Adam Kovac to win their doubles match on the top court. Junior
Cole Shoults won on the No. 2 singles court, and freshman
Wojciech Szczesny outlasted his Bearcat opponent on the No. 4 court. Rounding out singles play for Toledo was sophomore
Luis Kleinschnitz on the No. 5 court and Zupancic on the No. 6 court. Kleinschnitz overcame a loss in the first set to win sets two and three, while Zupancic handled his opponent with ease, winning 6-2, 6-1.
