BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University of Toledo men's tennis team opened its weekend with a 5-2 victory at Buffalo on Friday.
"It was another feisty MAC battle as predicted," head coach
Al Wermer said. "Our doubles gave us a good boost, but all our guys had great focus and energy from beginning to end."
The match started off with freshman
Adam Kovac and senior
Thawin Suksathaporn winning on the No. 2 doubles court, before UB's top doubles tandem won as well. It all came down to court No. 3, where freshman
Wojciech Szczesny and sophomore
Krzysztof Wetoszka were able to defeat their Buffalo counterparts to claim the doubles point for the Midnight Blue and Gold.
Wetoszka started off singles play with a win on the No. 3 court, then Buffalo won on court No. 5 to make it 2-1. The next three singles matches would all go the way of the Rockets to help them clinch the match. Suksathaporn won on the No. 2 court, Szczesny was victorious on the No. 6 court to clinch the win. Kovac then added another win on court No. 4.
The Rockets will continue their stay in New York and prepare for a Sunday battle at Binghamton.
