Rockets Post Pair of Run-Rule Victories at Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Sophomore Riley Mohr drove in seven runs and sophomore Macey Moore went 5-for-6 at the plate to propel the Toledo softball team (13-9, 3-3 MAC) to a pair of 10-2 run-rule victories over Buffalo (4-15, 2-4 MAC) on Saturday afternoon at Nan Harvey Field.

The Rockets pounded out 20 hits on the day with junior Anna Dixon (3-for-6, 3 RBI) joining Mohr and Moore with three or more hits during the doubleheader sweep.

"I thought we had great at-bats and put pressure on them all day," Head Coach Joe Abraham said. "We had a ton of good takes, clutch hits and some very good catches in the outfield."

Senior Erin Hunt (9-6) started both games in the circle for Toledo and allowed just five hits over 11 innings.

"Erin struggled in the first inning of both games but got into a groove after that," Abraham said. "It was good having Erin pitch the way she did, and I really liked how we came out focused and loose which is how you want to be."

The two teams will close out the weekend series tomorrow weather permitting with a doubleheader set to begin at noon.

GAME 1
  • Buffalo took an early 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the opening frame.
  • Macey Moore evened the score at 1-1 when she led off the second inning with her second homer of the season.
  • Two-out singles from Riley Mohr and Anna Dixon put Toledo ahead to stay, 3-1, in the top of the third.
  • Mohr's RBI groundout extended the Rockets' cushion to 4-1 in the top of fifth.
  • Anna Aguon's two-out homer in the bottom of the fifth cut the Bulls' deficit to 4-2.
  • Toledo blew the game open with a six-run sixth that Dixon capped off with a two-run double.
GAME 2
  • Dayna Denner blasted her eighth homer of the season over the right-center field fence in the first to give the Rockets an early 1-0 lead.
  • The Bulls answered with single runs in the first and second inning to take a 2-1 advantage.
  • Toledo broke through for four runs in the fourth after being limited to just Denner's homer in the first three innings.
  • Mohr's sacrifice fly tied the score at 2-2, with Aleah Marra's two-run triple give the Rockets the lead for good.
  • The Rockets added five more in the fifth with the big blow coming on Mohr's three-run double.
