Toledo Heads to Ball State for Four Games

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo baseball team continues Mid-American Conference play this weekend with a four-game series at Ball State.

The series opens on Friday with a 3:00 p.m. contest, then continues with a Saturday doubleheader featuring two seven-inning games beginning at Noon, followed by the series finale on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Live Stats for the whole weekend can be found by clicking here, and fans can also follow along on Twitter at @ToledoBaseball for updates.

Last Time Out
Toledo opened MAC play last weekend at Miami, dropping three out of four to the RedHawks.

The Rockets' victory came in game two of Saturday's doubleheader. After falling in game one, Toledo regrouped and came back to win the second game thanks in part to Layne Schnitz-Paxton's seven-inning complete game and eight strikeouts. Nicky Winterstein and Matt Kirk both had two hits and an RBI in the victory in game two, with Winterstein driving in the game-winning run in the sixth.

  • Toledo is tied with Kent State and Eastern Michigan for the MAC lead with 13 home runs. Chris Meyers is tied with two others for the conference lead with four homers this season.
  • Meyers has reached base in all 17 games this season and in 19 straight games dating back to last year.
  • The Rockets boast two of the four top run producers in the MAC in Meyers (17 RBIs, T-1st) and Mason Sykes (16 RBIs, T-2nd)

About Ball State
The Cardinals are 9-8 entering the weekend after taking three out of four from Western Michigan last weekend. Ball State has wins over nationally-ranked Arizona and SEC power Kentucky on its resume and is fueled by its impressive pitching staff. BSU leads the MAC with 186 strikeouts and sports a 3.81 team ERA, third in the conference. John Baker is tied for the conference lead with 39 punchouts and is tied for second with a 1.11 ERA. Ross Messina leads the team with a .346 batting average and 10 RBIs.
