MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State pulled away down the stretch on Saturday afternoon to send Mid-American Conference leader Toledo to an 81-67 defeat in Worthen Arena. The Rockets dropped to 16-5 overall and 11-2 in conference play with the loss that ended a five-game winning streak.

Tod Kowalczyk said. "When you go on the road in this league you need to play better than we did today. Give Ball State credit. They made plays and made shots they needed to win."

JT Shumate topped a balanced Toledo offense with 13 points. Sophomore
Keshaun Saunders contributed 12 points, while senior

Setric Millner Jr. added 11 points each. Millner also grabbed eight boards to pace the Rockets' rebounding efforts with Jackson and freshman
Ryan Rollins each collecting seven rebounds.
Sophomore Jarron Coleman led Ball State (7-9, 5-6 MAC) with 19 points. Senior Brachen Hazen registered a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Rockets registered season lows in both field-goal percentage (32.8) and three-point FG% (21.9). Ball State shot 40.3 percent from the field and 15-of-37 (40.5 percent) from three-point range.
Toledo's next game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 13 vs. Bowling Green at 2:00 p.m. in Savage Arena. The Rockets were originally slated to visit Northern Illinois on Tuesday, Feb. 9 but that contest has been postponed.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF
- Toledo jumped out to a 13-3 lead and forced Ball State to take timeout less than four minutes into the game. JT Shumate and Marreon Jackson keyed the hot start with six and five points, respectively.
- The Rockets extended their cushion to 19-3 on Ryan Rollins' three-pointer at the 13:06 mark.
- Ball State put together a 12-2 spurt to reduce its deficit to 21-15 on Jarron Coleman's dunk with 8:45 remaining in the half.
- Toledo responded with five straight points to regain a double-digit margin, 26-15, just over a minute later.
- The Cardinals then hit three triples as part of a 13-3 spurt to climb within a point, 29-28, 3:10 before halftime.
- Keshaun Saunders' dunk 43 seconds before halftime gave Toledo a 36-34 lead to take to the locker room.
SECOND HALF
- Ball State carried its momentum into the second half and another Coleman dunk put the Cardinals ahead, 47-41, with 14:57 remaining.
- The Rockets rallied and redshirt freshman Mattia Acunzo's three-point play gave Toledo back the lead, 52-51, with 11:03 left.
- After Ball State went back on top again three minutes later, Keshaun Saunders' layup with 7:11 to play provided Toledo its last lead of the game (56-55).
- The Rockets trailed 61-57 with 4:08 remaining when the Cardinals put the game away with a 10-0 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Toledo's seven three-point field goals matched its season low.
- The Cardinals' 15 treys were the most by a Rocket opponent this season. It marked just the fourth time a Toledo opponent has hit 10 or more threes in a game.
- Senior Marreon Jackson moved into second place on Toledo's all-time three-point field goal list. He now has 277 career triples, one more than Nick Moore (1999-2003)
