Toledo Opens MAC Play with Convincing 91-74 Win at EMU

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Senior Marreon Jackson tallied a season-high 20 points to lead Toledo (3-2, 1-0 MAC) to a 91-74 road win over Eastern Michigan (0-2, 0-1 MAC) on Friday night in the Mid-American Conference opener for both schools.

Jackson was joined in double digits by junior Setric Millner Jr. (17 pts.), senior Spencer Littleson (14 pts.), sophomore Keshaun Saunders (13 pts.) and freshman Ryan Rollins (13 pts.). Redshirt freshman Mattia Acunzo finished with nine points, six rebounds and three assists in 13 minutes.

"We've got a lot of guys who can score and I'd like to think we can have a lot of games like this where we have four or five guys in double figures," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Keshaun was awesome in the first half and saved us when we had some guys get in foul trouble. Then Mattia came through with some key plays in the second half when Eastern was making a run."

Saunders topped Toledo with a career-high seven rebounds, while Jackson dished out a team-best five assists and committed zero turnovers. He was part of a team effort that saw the Rockets collect 19 assists with just 10 miscues.

"We had a really efficient night against a great defense," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "We got the ball to the high post and Seth Millner made some plays that gave us good movement."

The Rockets shot 50.8 percent from the field, including a red-hot 57.1 mark in the second half. Toledo also knocked down 11-of-31 three-point attempts (35.5 percent) and 18-of-25 free throws (72.0 percent).

EMU shot just 32.3 percent in the first half as the Rockets pulled ahead to a 46-30 halftime advantage. The Eagles rallied to within two points, 66-64, before Littleson knocked down a three-pointer with 8:02 remaining to ignite a 9-0 Toledo spurt that put the game away.

Senior Ty Groce paced the Eagles with a game-high 21 points.

Toledo is now idle until Saturday, Dec. 12 when it hosts Kansas City (2-2). Tip-off time is set for Noon in Savage Arena.
