Former Rocket women's tennis player Claire Aleck was named a 2019 Distinguished Scholar Athlete by the MAC on Wednesday.

Claire Aleck Named MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete

Toledo, Ohio – University of Toledo women's tennis player Claire Aleck was named a Mid-American Conference Distinguished Scholar Athlete, the league announced Wednesday.
This season the Ada, Mich. native posted a 7-8 dual match record (3-4 MAC) from the No. 6 singles court during the regular season. Aleck clinched the Rockets' matches against Youngstown State and Akron and produced the Rockets' sole point against nationally ranked Lynn during their spring break trip. Over the course of the season Aleck notched five two-set sweeps over her opponents.
In doubles action Aleck went 6-8 in dual match play (3-3 MAC) from the No. 3 court. Aleck went 3-5 when paired with freshman Christina Fuller and 3-3 when paired with freshman Eileen Carney.
Aleck was named the 2019 Leann Grimes Davidge Sportsmanship Award recipient by the MAC and was named to the Academic All-MAC Team for a third consecutive year.
Aleck graduated in May with a 3.913 GPA and will be attending Ohio State in the fall to pursue a masters in speech language pathology.
Aleck is one of only six Mid-American Conference women's tennis athletes (106 total athletes) to be named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete, which is awarded to student-athletes who have excelled in athletics and academics. The number of Distinguished Scholar Athletes are selected from the number of first team selections or 20% of nominees from the Academic All-MAC Teams.
