Butler led 6-0 at one point in the game, and the Rockets were unable to overcome the early deficit. Freshman Ryan Thompson was a bright spot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs. Fellow freshman Darryn Davis also had two hits on the afternoon. Six pitchers saw time for Toledo, with senior Nate Haugh making his first career start.

Senior Day
Toledo will honor seven seniors prior to Sunday's game: Brad Boss, Axel Bueter, Riley Campbell, Chris Hampton, Michael Jacob, Luke Schaefer, and Jake Stout.

Rocket Notes
  • The Rockets are officially eliminated from MAC Tournament contention. This weekend's conference series with NIU will feature the first MAC games the Rockets have played without postseason implication since 2006. Toledo has been in the hunt for a postseason berth until the final game of the regular season each year since then.
  • Toledo pitchers have allowed the second-fewest home runs (nine) among MAC teams in conference games).
  • Michael Jacob is one of four MAC pitchers to have eclipsed 70 innings this season (72.2).
  • Ryan Thompson leads the team with a .339 batting average over the last 20 games. He is hitting .407 with runners on base during that stretch.
Scouting the Competition
Northern Illinois is 15-31 with an 11-10 conference record entering this weekend, and sits in fifth place in the MAC standings. The Huskies are hitting .257 and are averaging 5.2 runs per game. The pitching staff sports a 6.03 team ERA and opponents are hitting .306 against NIU hurlers.
