Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo baseball team ended its weekend on a high note, taking down the Miami RedHawks 7-5 on Sunday at Scott Park.

The Rockets snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win on Sunday. Senior Brad Boss went 3-for-4 at the plate and drove in three runs, including a solo home run. Freshman Mark Mohnickey got the start behind the plate and made the most of it, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Freshman Darryn Davis and sophomore Zach Schwartzenberger each tallied two hits, and senior Riley Campbell scored twice. On the mound, junior Doug Smith gave the Rockets six strong innings and he received help out the bullpen from senior Luke Schaefer, junior Austin Calopietro, and senior Nate Haugh.

Toledo has a pair of midweek contests coming up, including a home game against Dayton on Tuesday, April 9 at 3:05 p.m. and a Wednesday contest at Youngstown State at 5:00 p.m.

How it Happened

Smith struck out two batters in the top of the first and picked off the only runner to reach base that inning to get UT off to a strong start.
Boss led off the bottom of the first with a home run, his fourth dinger of the season, to give Toledo an early 1-0 lead.
Miami answered with a run in the top of the second, tying the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly.
Boss drove in two more runs in the bottom of the second to put UT ahead, 3-1. Campbell and Mohnickey both scored on the two-run double.
The RedHawks once again had an answer at the plate, tying the game at 3-3 on a two-run home run to left field.
Freshman Thomas Eitniear gave the Rockets a 4-3 advantage with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth.
After allowing the home run in the third, Smith finished strong with good innings in the fourth, fifth, and sixth to keep Toledo out in front.
Mohnickey ripped a two-run double deep into the gap in left-center field in the bottom of the fifth to open up a 6-3 lead for the Midnight Blue and Gold. The rookie catcher also had a clutch defensive play in the bottom of the seventh, throwing out a would-be base stealer at third base.
Schwartzenberger added an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI single that scored Davis.
The RedHawks made things interesting in the top of the eighth, scoring two runs courtesy of a couple Rocket errors, but the bullpen held strong and helped Toledo come away with a 7-5 win.
