Rockets Look to Ground RedHawks, Falcons

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's tennis team (10-6, 2-1 MAC) will hit the road to face Mid-American Conference opponents Miami (Ohio) and Bowling Green this weekend. The match at Miami match will be held at the Miami Tennis Courts on Friday at 1:00 p.m. (in case of inclement weather the match would be moved to Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio). The match at Bowling Green will be held at Keefe Courts at 1:00 p.m. In case of inclement weather the match would be moved to Perrysburg Tennis Center.

The Rockets return to the court after a huge 4-3 win over Akron on Saturday. UT took the doubles point with wins from senior Thalitia Rodrigues/freshman Kiersten Carlson on the No. 2 court and senior Claire Aleck/freshman Eileen Carney on the No. 3 court. The Rockets kept the momentum in singles play, with freshman Christina Fuller's two-set sweep of Miruna Vasilescu on the No. 4 court. Senior Kokoro Chishaki was the next Rocket to finish after a tough three-set thriller on the No. 3 court, coming out victorious over Anna Uljanov 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. On the No. 6 court senior Claire Aleck clinched the match, posting a two-set sweep of Ceci Rosas.

Last Time Against MiamiÂ
UT fell to Miami 4-3 in Toledo to close out the regular season last year. The Rockets dropped the doubles point despite Colleen O'Brien/Dee Dee Leenabanchong's 6-0 sweep on the No. 2 court. Chishaki and Rodrigues posted two-set sweeps at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots. After dropping the first set 4-6, Aleck pushed for a third set by winning the second 6-3. Aleck clinched the third set 10-5.

Miami is 6-10 (3-1 in the MAC). The RedHawks are coming off a three-match win streak, posting a 6-1 victory over Northern Illinois and 4-3 victories over Ball State and Buffalo. In non-conference play, the RedHawks captured wins over Boston, Western Kentucky, and Wright State. The RedHawks dropped four matches 6-1 against Louisville, Harvard, James Madison, and Xavier.

Freshman Brindtha Ramasamy boasts the best singles dual match record for the RedHawks, going 10-3 at the No. 1 spot. Ramasamy is on a three-match win streak and is 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents. Sophomore Melata Devia has a 6-4 record, splitting her time between the No. 5 and No. 6 spots. In doubles action, sophomore Milana Lysova/Ramasamy hold a 3-1 record in doubles dual match play on the No. 1 court.

Last season, Miami went 12-9 (8-1 MAC). The RedHawks posted 5-2 victories over Dayton, Marshall, Akron, and Eastern Michigan. Miami posted four 6-1 wins on the season and the RedHawks' only conference loss came at the hands of Buffalo. The RedHawks earned a No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament, and lost to No. 1 seed Buffalo in the championship match.

BGSU got away with 4-3 wins over Xavier, Wright State, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, and Western Michigan. In the MAC Tournament the Falcons earned a No. 4 seed and  defeated No. 5 seeded EMU 4-2 in the quarterfinals before falling to No. 1 seeded Buffalo 4-1 in the semifinals.
