Toledo Hosts Buffalo on Friday for Senior Day

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's tennis team (10-9, 2-4 Â MAC) is set to host Buffalo on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the UT Varsity Courts on Senior Day. Free Potbelly sandwiches will be available for fans. The match will also be available for streaming on ESPN+ and BCSN. In the event of inclement weather, the match would be moved to Twos Athletic Club and would not be broadcast.

The Rockets return to the court after falling 5-2 to Western Michigan in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Sunday. Toledo dropped the doubles point despite senior Claire Aleck and freshman Eileen Carney's 6-1 victory on the No. 3 court. Aleck and fellow senior Thalita Rodrigues swept their opponents in two sets on the No. 6 and No. 5 courts, respectively.

Toledo will be honoring seniors Kokoro Chishaki, Aleck and Rodrigues prior to the match on Friday. Aleck, a speech and language pathology major from Ada, Mich., has played primarily at the No. 6 position, clinching three matches and notching five two-set sweeps in singles action. From the No. 3 doubles court, Aleck has posted six victories this season. Chishaki hails from Kashiwa, Japan and came to Toledo after a stint at St. Petersburg College. While playing at the No. 3 spot for the Rockets this season, Chishaki has been pursuing a degree in sports management. Chishaki earned five two-set sweeps and has emerged victorious from two three-set battles this spring. Rodrigues, a sports management major from Brasilia, Brazil, joined the Rockets after a stint at Seward Community College. This season Rodrigues, splitting her time on the No. 5 and No. 6 courts, has posted five two-set sweeps. Rodrigues also clinched the Rockets' match against Southeast Missouri State in the Redbird Invitational, earning tournament MVP for her efforts.

Last Time Against Buffalo
UT fell to Buffalo 5-2 last season in Buffalo, N.Y. Chishaki/Sidnay Huck and Dee Dee Leenabanchong/Colleen O'Brien clinched the doubles point on the No. 1 and No. 2 courts. In singles play Leenabanchong secured the Rockets' second point from the No. 2 spot, leading 7-6(5) before her match was retired.

UB is 14-6 (3-3 MAC) and has posted five 7-0 sweeps on the season. The Bulls earned 5-2 victories over Drexel, Oakland, Keiser, and Western Michigan. UB comes to Toledo after a 6-1 loss to Akron on Saturday.

Freshman Pia Schwarz leads the Bulls with a 13-5 dual singles record, playing primarily at the No. 3 position. Next up for UB is senior Chantal Martinez Blanco, who has a 12-8 record at the No. 1 position. In doubles play Martinez Blanco and freshman Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou lead Buffalo with a 14-4 record on the No. 1 court.

Last season the Bulls went 17-3 and claimed back-to-back MAC Tournament titles after defeating Miami 4-2 in the championship. UB also recorded a 14-match winning streak before falling to Northwestern 4-0 in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
