Toledo Takes On Cleveland State, Wright State This Weekend

Toledo, Ohio – The University of Toledo women's tennis team is set to face Horizon League foes Cleveland State on Friday, Feb. 8 and Wright State on Saturday, Feb. 9 at Twos Athletic Club. Both matches will be at 1:00 p.m.

Last Friday, the Rockets defeated Saint Francis (Pa.), 6-1, at Twos. Senior duo Thalita Rodrigues/Kokoro Chishaki and freshman/senior duo Christina Fuller/Claire Aleck took victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots to clinch the doubles point. In singles, junior Dee Dee Leenabanchong, freshman Eileen Carney, Fuller, and Aleck all swept their opponents in two sets while Chishaki settled in for a three-set battle on the No. 3 court. On Saturday, the Rockets lost to Cincinnati, 7-0, at Twos.

Last Time Against Cleveland State
The Rockets edged out Cleveland State 4-3 in Cleveland on Jan. 28, last season. Duos Sidnay Huck/Kokoro Chishaki and Colleen O'Brien/Dee Dee Leenabanchong took victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to clinch the doubles point. Huck, Mimi Kendall-Woseley, and Chishaki swept their opponents in two sets each to seal the win.

Scouting Cleveland State
Last season Cleveland State went 12-13 with a 7-2 record in the Horizon League. The Vikings swept John Carroll, St. Bonaventure, Milwaukee, and Green Bay. In the first round of the Horizon League Championship the Vikings defeated Northern Kentucky 4-1 before falling to Youngstown State 2-4 in the semi-finals.

Isabella Spindler is Cleveland State's lone senior and finished last season with a team-best 19-15 singles record, primarily playing at the No. 1 spot. Spindler also had team-best record for doubles, going 17-7 with Aleksandra Golawska and finishing the season ranked second on the CSU Doubles Wins List with 39 career doubles wins.

Cleveland State has a 1-0 record on the season thanks to a 7-0 sweep of St. Bonaventure in January.

Last Time Against Wright State
Toledo secured a close 4-3 victory over Wright State in Dayton on Feb. 17 last season, . Despite coming up short in doubles with only one victory from O'Brien/Leenabanchong, the Rockets bounced back in singles play, winning four of six matches. Kendall-Woseley, Leenabanchong, Chishaki, and Rodrigues swept their opponents in two sets each.

Last season Wright State went 20-12 and 7-2 in the Horizon League, capturing seven regular season sweeps. The Raiders swept Oakland 4-0 to earn a spot in the Horizon League Championship semi-finals, where they fell to Illinois-Chicago 1-4.

Haily Morgan is the Raider's lone senior and went 18-18 in singles mainly at the No. 2 position and 20-8 mainly at No. 1 doubles last season. Junior Madison Riley went 22-18 at No. 4 singles and 16-12 at No. 3 doubles last season.
