TOLEDO – University of Toledo Head Coach Jason Candle announced on Wednesday that 18 student-athletes signed national letters of intent (NLI) to join the Rockets in 2020.
           Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period for high school football players. Players have until Friday to sign NLIs during the early signing period. The next signing period will begin on National Signing Day on Feb. 5.
           As of Wednesday afternoon, the recruiting service 247 Sports ranked Toledo's 2020 recruiting class No. 1 in the Mid-American Conference. The Rockets have had the No. 1 class in the MAC in each of the past three years, according to 247 Sports' final team rankings.
           "I'm very excited about our class," said Candle. "You're always trying to find guys that fit what you do and who you are as a program. This is a class full of high-character guys and winners. I think they will really buy into what we're doing and work hard to continue the tradition and standards that we've set here. Our assistant coaches did a good job of taking the recruiting plan that our recruiting coordinator Ricky Ciccone put together, which I thought was a really good plan. We're really fired up about this class and we're excited about what the future looks like."
