Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lightning Strikes in 1-0 Rocket Victory

TOLEDO, Ohio - A lightning strike with just eight over minutes remaining by sophomore Anita Mancini was all the Toledo women's soccer team (5-10-0, 2-5-0 MAC) needed to secure a 1-0 victory Friday night at Paul Hotmer Field thanks to a stifling defense that shutdown the high-powered attack of Ball State (11-4-0, 5-2-0 MAC).

Playing on Friday night for the last time this season, the Rockets came up big at every turn. Toledo limited the pressure put on by the Cardinals and allowed only two shots on goal through 90 minutes. After stopping the Ball State attack, Mancini continued to put the pressure on the Cardinal defense and capitalized on Tristin Stuteville coming off her line. Mancini broke past Stuteville on the one-on-one and buried the ball to the back of the net to seal the deal for the Rockets with 8:08 left on the clock.

The Cardinals started to mount an attack moments later, possessing the ball for most of the remaining eight minutes. However, a stellar stop by redshirt freshman Adrianna Brewer lit a fire under the Rockets, and they took control of the final waning minutes in the Glass City.

QUOTE OF THE MATCH FROM TJ BUCHHOLZ
"It was a great effort from everyone on the field tonight. Defensively, we're starting to sync and getting that shutout is great for us. Offensively, you put in a player like Anita to create something and to have something special happen. She plays with a lot of heart and effort every day. That's what you saw out on the field. We can't wait to get back at it and bring the energy we had today into Sunday's game."
