
Cross Country to compete at Bowling Green
Rockets to Compete in Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener on Friday

 TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams hit the road this Friday as they compete in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener in Bowling Green, Ohio. The men's 5K will start at 5:00 p.m. with the women's 5K starting at 5:35 p.m. at Forest Creason Golf Course.

The Rockets' season kicked off last week at home with the women placing four in the top five to win the meet. With a 4K time of 14:21.5, junior Athena Welsh clinched the win and was followed shortly after by freshman Claire Steigerwald (14:22.8, 2nd place). Senior Jennifer Lichter secured fourth with a time of 14:23.9 and rounding out the top five was senior Petronela Simiuc with a finishing time of 14:24.1.

Welsh was also honored on Wednesday as the Mid-American Conference's Runner of the Week for the first time in her collegiate career.

Junior Dismas Koech led the men's team in their 6K event, being the first Rocket to cross the finish line in 11th place (19:07.1).

In last year's matchup between Toledo and Bowling Green, Olivia Chinn clinched first (18:06.6) in the women's 5K with Amanda Bakley (18:17.0) taking third. Koech secured second in the men's race with a 5K time of 15:35.1.
