Three Rockets finish in Top 25 with senior Joad Martinho leading way with ninth-place showing

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Senior Joad Martinho led the Toledo men's cross country team to an eighth-place finish at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational on Friday morning. The race was held at the Lavern Gibson Cross Country Course which will serve as the site of the 2026 NCAA Championships.

Martinho completed the 8K race with a time of 23:25.6 and was one of three Rockets to place in the Top 25. Meet champion and No. 8 Syracuse and Toledo were the only schools to have three runners finishing in the Top 25.

Freshman Eloshas Kipkirui notched a 13^th-place finish in his collegiate debut, just a second behind Martinho with a time of 23:26.6. Junior Patrick Kiprop registered a 21^st-place showing with a time of 23:39.2.

"I thought we had a really strong showing from our top four today," Associate Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach Louis Vazquiz said. "Eloshas ran really well for his first race and we're excited to see how he performs in the postseason. Patrick made a big step forward and I'm very happy with his patience and execution. Joad was great again, and Loann has stepped up really well this year. We know we still have plenty of work to do, and that gives us something to be excited about. Our focus now shifts to the MAC Championships in two weeks, where we'll be looking to capture our third consecutive conference title."

No. 14 Villanova came in second place with 127 points, 12 behind the first-place Orange. No. 15 Notre Dame (148 pts.) was third and was followed by Wichita State (212 pts.), No. 29 North Carolina (243 pts.) and No. 26 Arizona (244 pts.).

Toledo returns to action on Friday, Oct. 30 when it travels to Kalamazoo, Mich. to compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships.
