Rockets Roll Past Central Michigan, 3-0

Toledo, Ohio— The Toledo women's volleyball team continued its winning ways on Friday with a 3-0 victory over Central Michigan at Savage Arena. The Rockets have won six of their last seven matches.

Zoe Birnbrich hit .364 and tallied a match-high 11 kills, while Chloee Kleespies, Emma Swope, and Elise Wilcox all added seven terminations. Alexis Falzone registered three blocks, the fourth time in the last five matches she has had at least three in a match. Carly Townsend was credited with 30 assists.

Toledo will host Eastern Michigan on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and it will be Superhero Night at Savage Arena. Free admission will be offered to anyone who comes to the match dressed as a superhero. Also, there will be a special edition Toledo volleyball Superhero-themed poster available at the match on Saturday. After the conclusion of the contest, fans will be able to get autographs from the team.

Set 1 (UT 25-18)
Central Michigan actually took early control of the match, jumping out to an 8-5 lead. An offensive outburst by the Rockets flipped the script, though, and put UT ahead 13-11. Toledo scored eight of 11 points, seven of which came on kills and one on a service ace. During that stretch, Wilcox had her wicked serve on full display, baffling the Central Michigan back row. CMU never led again in the set, though it did fight to within one, 19-18. But the Rockets made quick work of the Chippewas to end the first frame, scoring the final six points and ending the set with an exclamation point: a service ace from Maurissa Leonard.

Set 2 (UT 25-20)
The Rockets picked up where they left off, taking an 8-2 lead to start the second set. This time, though, Central Michigan used a mid-set run to take the lead; seven straight CMU points turned a three-point Toledo lead into a four-point deficit. UT did not back down, registering the next four points to tie the score at 16-16. The Midnight Blue and Gold ended the second set with a 9-4 run to cruise to a 25-20 victory.

Set 3 (UT 25-23)
Both teams traded points to start the third set before the Rockets' 4-0 run gave them a 10-6 lead. Central Michigan hung around, staying within striking distance of UT, before finally making its move in the waning moments of the match. Trailing 22-18, CMU scored four straight to tie the frame at 22-22. Luckily for the Rockets, a pair of freshmen stepped up to snuff out any CMU comeback attempt. Wilcox made it 23-22 with her seventh kill of the night and Falzone ended the match with her sixth kill and sealed the victory for Toledo.
